Avis joined SVA in 2009.  She began as a veterinary assistant at Northwest Veterinary Hospital after obtaining her Master’s degree in biological anthropology from Kent State University. She was licensed as a Veterinary Technician in 2015. Her veterinary interests lie in parasitology, zoonotic diseases and clinical pathology. When Avis is not work, she enjoys traveling, watching live music, hiking, reading outdoor survival stories, knitting, and spending time in the sun, when and where she can find it. She is a thrill-seeker and enjoys activities that involve speed and a healthy dose of danger. She has a new young dog named Eli and is spending time training and being active with her new companion. She also shares her home with a cute little geriatric kitty named Suna.
